Muirfield is a privately owned links which is the home of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Located in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, overlooking the Firth of Forth, Muirfield is one of the golf courses used in rotation for The Open Championship.

Amenities:

First built in 1891 and modified by subsequent extensions, the clubhouse now harmonises well with both the landscape and the buildings on either side and is one of the truly iconic images in world championship golf.The clubhouse is delightfully traditional and full of character. All the main public rooms look out onto the course and have an interesting selection of pictures, and memorabilia. At the west end of the clubhouse near the entrance gates is a small, ladies’ Locker Room. The adjacent Captain’s Room is used as a pleasant Mixed Lounge. At the far end of the building is the men’s Locker Room with a Smoking Room and Dining Room between. The staff pride themselves on the quality of service enjoyed by Members, their guests and visitors.

Yards and par:

Although the old course at Muirfield is a links course as it is set upon elevated ancient land claimed from the sea as highlighted by its sandy base and small sea shells in the bunkers, it has an unusual layout in that it is arranged as two loops of nine holes, one clockwise, one counterclockwise. It is unique in character, testing all aspects of shot making. Length of the course is 7,034 yards. Par for the course is 71.

Tournaments:

Muirfield has hosted The Open Championship fifteen times, most recently in 2002, and is scheduled to host it again in 2013.
