Formed in 1882 the Australian Golf Club is the oldest and one of the most prestigious golf clubs in Australia. The Australian is a private member’s course.Guests should be invited to play by a member of The Australian, unless they are from interstate or overseas, in which case they may be introduced by the General Manager.
Manager introduced guests should be affiliated with a recognised golf club or association, and hold a current membership identification card or letter of introduction from that organisation. The Australian is one of Australia’s most exclusive golf clubs.

The course is American style, somewhat flattish with big bunkers. The original course was designed by Clark, Hutchinson & Martin (1903). The golf courses were remodelled by Jack Nicklaus in the 1980′s adding length, water hazards and distinct mounding to create a golf course dissimilar in many ways to the originalThere are 18 holes.Par for the course is 72, Australian Course Rating (ACR) is 75 – The total length of the course is 7046 yards.

Tournaments:
The Australian Golf Club was the home of the Australian Open in the 1970s and has also hosted the tournament many times before and since. The Women’s Australian Open was also hosted here in 1975.
